Jibbering Art proudly present
Fifty One Degrees, an exhibition by Chu.
24th April - 6th May 2009
Preview Night: 23rd April from 6pm.
@ Wild Building, 104 - 108 Floodgate Street, Digbeth, Birmingham, B5 5SJ.
Aerosol cans become unstable at 51 degrees, pyramids are built at 51 degrees, secondary rainbows are only visible at 51 degrees, daisies open up to the sun at 51 degrees, and the northern hemisphere begins above the latitude of 51 degrees. If the graffiti tradition of adopting a number after your tag (similar to Taki 183, from 183rd Street, NYC) then the artist Chu’s number is definitely FIFTY ONE.
This new collection charts a journey in the UK from the town of Walsall to the city of Birmingham, along the A34 road, the flagship route for bus number 51. This journey passes Chu’s secondary school, crosses the busiest stretch of motorway in Europe, co-habiting with a plentiful supply of pedestrian walkways and vehicular spine routes through socially disparate areas and estates throughout north Birmingham.
12 new paintings and simultaneous, limited edition, screen print releases will be shown alongside a warehouse space containing an installation created specifically for this comeback show and we can’t wait.

by
James Dawson

This exhibition ‘interconnects’ with the fact that much of the artwork in the show is produced with or on recycled materials and the paintings on them also portray this; by the use of repeated interconnecting patterns, abstract forms and observations of patterns in nature with a graphical twist.

Open: Monday-Thursday 10am-6.30pm, Friday 10am-5.30pm and Saturday 10.30am-5.30pm
